Family Screen Scene

Family Screen SceneWhat do you do when you've done it all? For the WHO's Roger Daltrey, it's accepting an acting and singing role on a children's music video. Daltrey stars as bus driver Argon the dragon. The rock legend's voice lends itself well to the songs based on the classic children's song, "The Wheels on the Bus." Argon drives as the bus passengers sing along to lively, but not grating, songs. Among the passengers is the Jumbo Shrimp Circus, who perform snippets of their act. Along the way, Mango the Monkey and Papaya the Toucon must find where they live. This takes the bus on an adventure, which turns television sets into colorful aquariums, a farm, and a zoo. The ride isn't trouble free. They even run out of gas, which merely inspires Argon to get to the gas station quickly and everyone to break in to song with "Fill-it-Up." So entertaining is this witty children's video, truly suitable for ages 1 year old and older, that parents are given the option to allow the DVD edition to repeatedly play.

Daltrey isn't the only multi-talented performer on this DVD that should become a classic. His co-star, Janie Laurel Escalle makes her professional acting and singing debut. We expect to see the nine-year-old in future television and movie productions.

Keyboardist and composer Laura Hall, who was "...inspired to write kids' music during a long car trip with my two-year-old niece, Alex, who was very bored and restless at the time. Out of desperation I began to improvise songs to keep her amused." Hall has released two children's music albums and composed three of the songs for The Wheels on the Bus Video, with lyrics by writer, director, producer, Timothy Armstrong. Hall was also a part of ABC's improvisational game show, Whose Line is It Anyway?

"The Wheels on the Bus Video gave me the chance to do something different," says Daltrey, "It's a great way of introducing music to a whole new generation of kids - maybe even the grandchildren of teenagers that grew up listening to the WHO!" (agreed!)

New bus songs include, "High, Low, Fast, Slow;" "Everybody on the Bus is going Somewhere;" "Fill-it-Up;" and "Home." The episode blends CGI animation, puppetry, and live action sequences.

We recommend The Wheels on the Bus Video Mango & Papaya's Animal Adventure for any household with children. Even baby will enjoy the catchy tunes, if, like one of the passengers, mama helps her clap along.

In 2004, The Wheels on the Bus Video - Mango and Papaya's Animal Adventure was awarded with the coveted Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award from the Parents Choice Foundation. Our friends at Coalition for Quality Children's Media awarded the KIDS FIRST! All-Star Endorsement.
